Our Mission for HK C.A.R.E.

HK C.A.R.E. (Community Assistance and Resources for Emergencies)
An important measure of any community is how it responds when one of its members needs assistance because of illness, injury or death. Funds will be set aside for emergency needs, such as clothing, food, temporary housing. And the program will work with existing assistance programs to provide services for community members in need.

In 2012 we had the honor of help Cheryl Galante and her family when they faced a medical, financial and emotional crisis as the result of a devastating car crash in which Cheryl broke her neck. Read Cheryl's letter of thanks to the community below:

Dear HK Friends,

Thank you for your love and generous support. You have eased the way for my family and me during a very difficult time, creating possibility during a time of frightening uncertainty. Thank you for your gracious giving.

I am so grateful to be fully recovered, healthy and strong. It has been an incredible healing journey, one of surrender, reflection and gratitude. Amazed at my quick and complete recovery, the doctors say I’ve “healed like a child". I thank you for that.

I know it’s your generosity and love that has allowed me to heal so perfectly. You carried me through uncertainty, alleviating fear.... giving my children and my courage. Without worries and concern over the care of my home and children, I've had the freedom, peace and energy to rest, nourish, and heal my body. Now that I am healthy and strong I can move forward in helping others in need, as you have done for me.

My darkest hours were illuminated by the blessing of friendship: rekindling old relationships, beginning new ones. Time, stillness and peace in the company of all of you have been a gift you cannot imagine. I couldn't have created a more perfect family in all of you. You are my family: my warm, generous, caring community. I am honored to be a part of you and I remain forever grateful for your kindness.

The mission of Green Recoverings is to match needed resources (sleeping materials) with needy recipients—shelters, charities, families in need; while providing our country’s many hotels with an outlet for their gently used bedding materials and reducing the impact on our quickly filling landfills.
